Self-access at Syston library

Syston library members can now register to use new self-access technology. Library Plus is now live, and will allow users to take advantage of 30 additional opening hours per week.

During Library Plus self-access hours you can:

  • Borrow, return and renew library books using the self-service kiosks
  • Pick up and borrow reserved items awaiting collection
  • Use public computers, photocopy, print and access WiFi
  • Access the public library catalogue
  • Find a library

  • Books on Prescription 

    Reading Well Books on Prescription helps you manage your wellbeing using self-help reading. The scheme is endorsed by health professionals and supported by public libraries.

  • Join the Library 

    You can join online if you are 16 or over.

  • Renew and Reserve 

    Renew or reserve library items

  • Download eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines or eNewspapers 

    Use the free digital library services to download eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines or eNewspapers using a tablet, smartphone, PC or Mac.

  • Bookstart 

    Book sharing is an enjoyable and important part of a child’s development and is also fantastic for bonding between you and your child. Bookstart is the national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with children from an early age.


    For members of Leicestershire Libraries. Online reference library for books and authors, reference books and dictionaries, access to research, business information and consumer advice, Driving Theory Test, and local and family history.

  • Book a computer to use at a library 

    You can book a computer to use at a library up to two weeks in advance


    Rooms are available to hire in libraries by community groups, individuals and private companies.

  • Community libraries 

    The council is working closely with communities to help them run their own libraries.

  • Mobile library routes 

    The travelling library service visits communities that do not have a static library, within Leicestershire.

  • Ordnance Survey mapping service 

    Site-centred Ordnance Survey (OS) maps suitable for Planning Applications.

  • Summer Reading Challenge 

    This year’s Summer Reading Challenge in Leicestershire Libraries is called Animal Agents, illustrated by best-selling children’s illustrator Tony Ross.
