Leicestershire County Council is backing a new national campaign encouraging people keen to make a difference to work for their local authority.

Support Worker, Passenger Fleet Driver and Trading Standards Officer are just three of many roles available at the council and anyone looking for a rewarding job is urged to consider applying.

This drive coincides with a new Government campaign, launching today, highlighting both excellent workplace benefits and the difference you could make to your community by working in local government.

Sam Cooper is a Senior Project Manager and has worked at the county council for almost 25 years. She said: “starting my local government career in a part-time role worked perfectly for my young family and when I was ready to progress, I took advantage of free management qualifications and even a level four apprenticeship through my employer.

“I was always supported and encouraged by my colleagues to take on new challenges and with hybrid and flexible working available, I’m able to make work fit well with my family and lifestyle. Although I’m not quite ready to give up work yet, I’m looking forward to reducing my hours over the next few years, taking advantage of phased retirement options.

“It feels great to make a difference in my own local community every day, doing a job I love.”

Cllr Pam Posnett, Lead Member for Staff Relations added: “93% of staff say the county council is a good place to work, with employees able to maintain a positive work-life balance through family-friendly smarter working arrangements, including hybrid working, compressed hours and job shares.

“We’re committed to providing an inclusive workplace and I know from first-hand experience that my work as an elected member would simply not be possible without dedicated local authority staff.”

“Working in local government offers a unique opportunity to make a huge impact on the world around you, from adult social care to public health, early years education and the environment. With such a wide range of roles available, there really is something for everyone.

“With a great work-life balance, the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme and rewarding work available, why not apply to work for the council today?”
