A42 slip road closure to improve major junction

The next phase of roadworks is set to start in June

Congestion-busting works to the A42 at the Flagstaff roundabout near Ashby are set to take place next month.

The next phase of improvement works will see the northbound off-slip road from the A42 junction 13 roundabout close overnight.

The work to the busy junction is part of Leicestershire County Council’s ongoing traffic management project to reduce congestion at the A42 junction 13 roundabout.

The closure is necessary to widen the slip road to create three lanes where it joins the Flagstaff roundabout and enable resurfacing work to be done across the whole roundabout.

A fully signed diversion route, taking drivers up to junction 14 and back south along the A42 to exit at junction 13 from the southbound slip road, will be put in place to guide drivers.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists due to the roadworks but we are working hard to reduce the disruption to people using the busy route. It is only motorists travelling northbound on the A42 and wishing to exit at junction 13 that will be affected by this closure.

The road closure is planned to begin on Sunday 4 June and will continue until the end of July, normally on Sunday nights through to Thursday nights each week between 8pm and 6am each night.

In addition, the A42 northbound off-slip road at junction 13 will be closed on the following weekends;

  • Friday 30 June from 8pm to Monday 3 July at 6am
  • Friday 7 from 8pm to Monday 10 July at 6am
  • Friday 14 from 8pm to Monday 17 July at 6am
