Carers urged to know their rights

Each day, around 6,000 people start caring and a nationwide campaign is encouraging them to ‘know their rights and ensure they’re not missing out.’

Leicestershire County Council is supporting Carers Rights Day on Friday, 25 November as it is vitally important that carers know their rights and can access expert advice on financial and practical support or other challenges they may be facing.

Figures from the 2011 census show there are more than 70,000 unpaid carers in Leicestershire.

Carers do a wonderful job that can often put emotional strain on their personal lives. Many people don’t realise they are carers and could be missing out on support which could make their lives easier.

Support for Carers, backed by the county council along with NHS partners, offers advice and support to carers to improve their quality of life, and promote their health and wellbeing.

They can be contacted on 0845 6899 510 (local rates apply), email or visit

Carers may also be eligible for an assessment and more information is available at
