Hundreds of smokers across Leicestershire made it their New Year’s resolution to ditch the cigarettes for 2018.
Smokers from across the county decided to start 2018 smoke free by getting in touch with our QuitReady stop smoking service.
A total of 275 local smokers set their quit date for January 2018, and are currently being supported through a 12-week quit programme by specially trained QuitReady advisors.
January is traditionally a popular time of year to make healthy lifestyle changes and we're delighted that so many Leicestershire residents have decided to go smoke free.
"We know that quitting is difficult, but smokers are four times more likely to succeed with the support of a stop smoking service. Leicestershire County Council’s QuitReady service is here to provide that support and I'd encourage people to sign up for our free service.Person:Councillor Pam Posnett, cabinet member for public health
Throughout the programme quitters receive regular support from designated advisors, either over the phone, online or face to face. They are also provided with free stop smoking medication, chosen to suit their needs and lifestyle.
In addition, all QuitReady advisors are trained to provide expert advice on the use of e-cigarettes to help people stop smoking tobacco.
