Leicestershire County Council is joining up with WRAP, the UK’s leading sustainability charity, to promote its inaugural Food Waste Action Week.
Food Waste Action Week will run from today (Monday, 1 March) until Sunday, 7 March, and aims to highlight easy, everyday actions to avoid food wastage and halt its contribution towards climate change.
70% of all food wasted in the UK is from our own homes, with each year seeing households throw away 4.5 million tonnes of food which could have been eaten.
The council’s Adult Learning Service will be hosting an online cooking course, “Let’s Cook Tea”, which will run from 1 March to 22 March, and will feature lots of food waste prevention tips. People can sign up at any point during the next few weeks and do not have to attend every session.
Leicestershire County Council is delighted to be a Food Waste Action Week partner, and we pledge our full support in helping to reduce the amount of edible food going to waste across Leicestershire.
We all have a part to play in breaking the cycle, and by working together, we can prevent food being wasted needlessly and protect the planet.

People are being asked reduce the amount of food they waste at home and are invited to take part in activities which will be hosted throughout the week on Love Food Hate Waste’s Twitter, and Facebook platforms and the Love Food Hate Waste website.
