A Leicestershire youngster has won a competition which will see her school receive a super prize.
Primary school pupils were given the chance to win £500 of sports equipment for their school by designing a ‘Quorn superhero’ as part of a scheme to encourage healthy eating in schools.
Violet Brown, aged 9, wowed the judges with her entry “Gripper Gabbi” and won £500 of sports equipment vouchers for Greystoke Primary School, Narborough.
The competition, run by LTS Catering and Quorn Foods, saw eight Leicestershire schools take part, and around 260 individual entries of hopeful superheroes.
LTS Catering worked with Quorn Foods to deliver sessions promoting healthy eating as part of their commitment to encourage healthy eating in schools.
It’s great to see school children showing an interest in healthy eating, which goes hand-in-hand with an active lifestyle. I hope Greystoke Primary School enjoy getting active with their new sports equipment.
“Congratulations to Violet for her winning entry and well done to all pupils who took part.Person:Byron Rhodes, deputy council leader
Pupils were taught about the importance of eating healthily through interactive sessions, focussing on the Eat Well Plate. The children also learnt more about the main food groups and the health benefits of eating a balanced diet.
Afterwards, the children were given a cookery demonstration, showing how they can enjoy meat-free versions of their favourite meals.
