The Choose How You Move initiative, which is a joint venture between Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council, has launched a new-look website to help the county and city travel smarter, through more sustainable and active methods.
On ChooseHowYouMove.co.uk walking routes, cycling maps, bus timetables, and park and ride information can be viewed and downloaded, as well as finding out and signing up to cycling courses, active travel events and much much more.
Businesses have their own dedicated page where they can receive help and advice to introduce active and sustainable travel, such as cycling, walking, car sharing, and using public transport, into their workplace, reducing traffic congestion outside their workplace, creating a happier and fitter workforce, and reducing travel costs.
Our Choose How You Move team do such great work helping the public walk, cycle, use public transport, and car share. I am pleased to see the new website which is clearer and simpler to use so the public can easily find the great initiatives we run to take advantage of.
The county council is proud to be leading the way in sustainable travel. We offer staff car-sharing spaces, electric charging points, as well as an electric pool car and pool bikes to use to and from meetings. We are eager to work with people across the county to help them reduce their own carbon footprint.

Both the county and city Choose How You Move teams also work alongside schools to offer fun activities and competitions promoting active travel. They regularly visit schools to teach cycling skills, road safety, and encourage pupils to keep active.
Deputy city mayor, Adam Clarke, who leads on environment and transport in the city, said: “We’re facing a climate emergency, which means we all need to make better choices when it comes to getting around. That can sound daunting, but the Choose How You Move website has lots of ideas that can help you to make it easy.
“Even making small or occasional changes to choose more active travel can benefit air quality, the local environment and your own health.”
