Organisations and individuals across the county are being invited to ‘plant a tree for the jubilee’ to mark next years’ Platinum Jubilee.
The Vice Lord Lieutenant – the Queen’s representative for Leicestershire - joined staff and residents from Moat House Care Home in Hinckley to plant an Oak tree for the jubilee, and it’s hoped that other communities across the county will follow suit.
The tree will form part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
I’m delighted to be able to plant a tree for the Jubilee, here at Moat House. I’m confident that this will be the first of many planted for the Queen’s Green Canopy across the county.
The Queen’s Green Canopy project highlights the value of trees as nature’s simple but effective way to help clean the air we breathe, slow the impact of climate change, create important wildlife habitats and improve our general health and wellbeing. We’d like to encourage other care homes, organisations and people across Leicestershire to plant their own tree for the Jubilee.

Hayley Langley, Home Manager, added: “The residents at Moat House are so pleased as it’s the perfect way to mark the Queen’s Jubilee. The tree’s love and care will become an ongoing part of the residents annual gardening club. We hope this will be the first of many trees to be planted in Burbage.”
Anyone wishing to plant their own tree for the Jubilee, can access trees through free and affordable tree schemes offered by the Woodland Trust.

Throughout Her reign, The Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees all over the world and has spoken alongside Sir David Attenborough of the importance of trees in the Earth’s future.
The QGC is a voluntary and inclusive initiative which is open to participation by everyone in the UK.
The QGC is a symbolic gift which involves the voluntary dedication of forests and woodland – there is no land/title transfer.
The QGC is a not-for-profit initiative, which has not received Government funding.
