LTS Catering has picked up a top award for the food they serve in schools for the very first time.

The team of passionate cooks are celebrating after being given the Soil Association’s Gold ‘Food Served Here’ catering mark, which is the highest accolade the Soil Association currently presents to caterers across the country.

LTS Catering currently serve more than 33,000 school meals to more than 230 schools across the Midlands and are continually striving to serve show-stopping, healthy food that helps children learn and grow.

LTS Catering have had some fantastic achievements in the past year which include business beyond the county borders, trialling new menus, successful apprenticeships in Michelin restaurants and much more. But this recognition from the Soil Association is something the catering team have been striving to achieve, and now they have.

“This quality mark reflects and embodies the good food culture that we’re so passionate about and underlines the excellent work from our school kitchens where staff take pride in serving food for young people that’s healthy, nutritious and where possible, direct from local suppliers.

It is hoped that the latest achievement from LTS Catering, that has come shortly after being accepted as a member of the Sustainable Food Cities Network, will encourage more people and organisations to get involved in making Leicestershire a healthy, sustainable county.

Last year, LTS Catering contributed to the £2m income generation for the council which is helping to offset reductions in government funding.  Achieving the gold status will give LTS Catering the opportunity to attract new markets, which could help them contribute further to the council’s financial targets.

LTS Catering is well known in Leicestershire for its ethos and attitude towards providing excellent standards and exciting yet engaging mealtimes. One of their golden ingredients in their recipe for success is the Junior Chef competition which attracts children from across Leicester and Leicestershire.

This year, the competition, which took place on 24 June, was made even more special as representatives from the Soil Association joined the young chefs and catering team to present them with their gold certificate to mark their latest success story.
