Statement on quarrying operations

Statement issued following county court hearing

Following a recent county court hearing which resulted in an injunction being served on the owner of Granitethorpe and Sapcote quarries for failing to comply with enforcement notices relating to quarrying operations, Councillor Trevor Pendleton, the chairman of the county council’s development control board, has issued the following statement:

We welcome the decision by Leicester County Court to impose an injunction on the owner of Granitethorpe and Sapcote quarries. We took this action as some of the activities taking place at the site didn’t comply with planning law and previous enforcement steps had been ignored

"The decision sends out a strong message that the county council is prepared to take this type of action, particularly as we were very aware of the impact of the activities on the lives of local residents.”
