There's still time to nominate the county's significant figures and buildings for the latest round of Green Plaque awards.
Nominations can be made at www.leicestershire.gov.uk/greenplaques until the closing date of Monday, 20 March. A shortlist will then be drawn up by a panel of judges, before local residents will be invited to vote for up to six nominees.
They can cover such themes as war heroes, philanthropists, places with cultural or heritage connections and buildings of historical or architectural importance.
There’s interest already in the nominations but I don't want people to miss out on the chance of putting in nominations, as we want the scheme to build pride in our communities and help support tourism.Person:Councillor Peter Lewis, county council cabinet member for Green Plaques
Past recipients of a Green Plaque include railways pioneer George Stephenson, Monty Python star Graham Chapman and the John Taylor Bellfoundry at Loughborough.
