Leading figures at Leicestershire County Council have heaped praise on students, parents and staff in a video broadcast.

Councillor Deborah Taylor, newly-appointed cabinet member for children and young people, along with department director Jane Moore, have highlighted the hard work put in by everyone connected with schools and colleges as a ‘challenging’ school year draws to a close.

Mrs Taylor acknowledged the ‘difficult and challenging’ second half of the school year with schools having to close to most pupils during lockdown

In the video, Mrs Taylor says:

There have been some wonderful achievements, you have shown amongst other things; resilience, flexibility as well as embracing new ways of learning and working. To our children, thank you for being absolute stars.

Jane Moore focused her message on the ‘huge’ joint effort of parents, carers, teachers, support staff, and early years’ providers, she said: “My thanks to parents and carers for showing flexibility,  patience, and understanding during this difficult time and how they have supported  home schooling in the best way that works for them and their families.

“We hope you enjoy your summer break and thank you.”

Plans for children to return for the next school year are still being finalised in line with national government and Public Health guidance.
