Video shines a light on foster carers

We are marking Foster Care Fortnight 2021 (10-23 May) with a video addressing this year’s theme: #WhyWeCare

The video features staff from across our fostering team, sharing their thoughts on the work they do - and that rewarding feeling when a safe and loving home is found for children and young people across the county.

It’s hoped the video will encourage people interested in helping vulnerable children and young people to find out more about fostering, as part of the national awareness campaign.

I’m so proud of my team for the work they do and the care that goes into their roles.

"I’m proud too of each and every one of our foster carers who work every day to improve the lives of our children and young people.

"We know that many people think about fostering, but possibly don’t realise that there are different ways to help, from offering emergency and respite foster care to long-term and permanent fostering, being an independent visitor or providing supported lodgings to a young person over 16.

“There are so many ways that people can help to change the future of a child in care. There really will be a way to fit fostering into your life and we would be delighted to hear from you and tell you more.

The council’s Find Out About Fostering events are now held virtually via Microsoft Teams, with the next event due to take place on Tuesday, 18 May at 6:30pm.

They offer an opportunity to hear from the team about who can foster, different ways to foster and the application process. A foster carer will also talk first-hand about their experiences.
