You can apply for any temporary or long-term waste permit online

Check if you need a waste permit

You'll need a permit if you're using a:

  • Van, pick-up truck or any vehicle designed or altered to transport goods*
  • Trailer 4 foot 6 inches (1.37 metres) long or over (from front board to back board)*

*Please note: this is not an exhaustive list of all vehicles.

Apply for a waste permit online

  • Permits are only available to Leicestershire county residents. The online application will not proceed if you live in the city or neighbouring counties.
  • Permits are free of charge.
  • Permits are delivered to your home address or can be collected from a library during staffed hours only.
  • Permit applications are not processed during weekends, so please allow sufficient time for the permit to be processed and delivered to you or the library.
  • You must have the permit before attending the waste site.
 

Updated online application service for waste permits

Even if you've applied online before for a waste permit, you’ll now need to use a 'Self' account: Sign up with your email address.

  • Existing waste account holders will see a red prompt saying your email address is already registered, which means we've moved you onto our new 'Self' system - just click the forgotten password link to reset your password.
  • New users will receive a verification email (check spam/junk folders) - just click the link in the email to verify your account. Add your name and address in the profile form and click Submit.

You can complete online applications at any time by following the link below and logging in. See a list of your application(s) in the My Requests area.

Changes to vehicle ownership or address

If you have a long-term (12 visit) Household Waste Permit, you'll need to tell us if:

  • the vehicle is sold
  • your address changes

Other types of Household Waste Permit are short-term and don't need updating.

  1. Log in to your Self account, click your name in the top-right corner of the screen, select My Profile - update your address and click Submit. Then,
  2. Complete the online update your waste permit details form

Change of vehicle

If you need to visit the recycling and household waste site while you are waiting for your new permit you can apply for a temporary one.

Renewing a waste permit

You apply for a new permit as and when you need one, you cannot renew a temporary permit or a long term (12 visit) permit. When your long term permit expires or has been used 12 times, apply for a new one.
