As part of the Department for Transport’s Covid-19 Emergency Active Travel Fund, we have been awarded funding for a series of works to encourage and support walking and cycling throughout the county.

Work begins on the first round of active travel initiatives on Wednesday 22 July 2020. These works are temporary measures and will be closely monitored, this information will be assessed to inform us on future permanent measures.

The creation of a temporary cycle corridor on the A6 Loughborough Road in both directions by removing central road markings and narrowing existing traffic islands. The safety of cyclists will be improved by implementing a right turn ban from and including Hermitage Road to Sibson Road.

Leicester Forest East

The extension of the existing cycle lane on the A47 Hinckley Road in both directions by removing central road markings and narrowing existing traffic islands.

Market Harborough

Kettering Road’s existing cycle lanes will be widened, and traffic flow improved by the installation of temporary traffic signals.

Park and Pedal sites

New Park and Pedal facilities will be available at Enderby and Meynells Gorse Park and Ride sites and County Hall, Glenfield. Facilities include new public overnight bike shelters and lockers.
