Looking after Leicestershire and local engagement

Local engagement with stakeholders of HS2 through Leicestershire is an important process and activity to make sure that the views and concerns are being heard and represented.

Leicestershire County Council has resolved to take a proactive approach to HS2 proposals, to ensure the impacts of HS2 are mitigated.

We will work with HS2 Ltd to minimise the direct impact of the construction of the new railway on our highways, communities, businesses, and the natural environment. This includes managing road closures, diversions routes and construction traffic.

In addition, we will work with HS2 Ltd to mitigate the long-term legacy impact of the railway, ensuring appropriate transport links are maintained and that the natural environment is suitably restored.

We will also work with both local and regional stakeholders through the planning, construction, and operation stages of the route through Leicestershire, and the opportunities we will seek to benefit the region and county.

Overall, our aim is to ensure Leicestershire’s residents and businesses are supported with the most up to date information throughout the development of HS2.

HS2 Ltd are still awaiting their instruction from the Department for Transport (DfT) for Phase 2b eastern leg which is planned to pass through Leicestershire. Until this instruction is given, we have no further information on the timescales or the exact route of the line. However, Leicestershire County Council will be working with Northwest Leicestershire District Council to consider a forward plan for further Parish and Stakeholder engagement.
