A42 slip road closure

Significant changes to the A511, A512 and A42 junction 13 Flagstaff Roundabout near Ashby are being made ahead of expected higher traffic levels due to new housing developments in the area and a growing economy.

Our project, which is partly funded by the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership’s (LLEP) Local Growth Deal, includes:

  • Permanent traffic lights to manage traffic flow
  • Widening of the carriageway to increase the number of lanes to major routes
  • Improved shared use cycle and pedestrian links between Coalfield Way and Lountside
  • The replacing of existing safety barriers at various locations
  • Resurfacing of part of the slip road from the A42

Much of the work will take place overnight to avoid lane closures during the day and to minimise delays. Most of the day time work is scheduled to take place during off-peak times.

Motorists are advised however to allow extra time for journeys - or to find alternative routes if possible during the developments.

This is a major investment in improving a very busy junction in the area. The improvements being made should greatly ease congestion around the Ashby De La Zouch/Coalville areas, helping drivers to avoid delays now and in the future.

The work, which will be completed in July 2017, have been planned to ease increased traffic levels expected from a growing economy.

The speed limit across the roundabout will be reduced to 40mph during the construction work and Eurovia will have a temporary site compound near to the Flagstaff roundabout off the A512.

Joanne Plews has been appointed as the dedicated public liaison link for both Eurovia and the county council. She will be distributing information in advance about changes in the traffic management arrangements, meeting with residents and businesses and circulating a weekly update sheet by email as well as using notice boards in public places to display this information.

She can be contacted by email at Joanne.Plews@eurovia.co.uk or by phone on 07768 940 187.

Joanne also works closely with Highways England to make sure that the impact on highway users is well managed during construction of the East Midlands Gateway work , the smart motorway work and the A42 Junction 13 work.

Updates will also be available by following the council on Twitter @LeicsCountyHall
