Construction updates and road works

Keep up to date with progress on the project, as well as road and footpath closures and diversions.

Overview

Construction on the NEMMDR began early in 2023 with advance works to create access routes for construction vehicles and machinery as well as the setting up of site compounds, removal of vegetation and erection of fencing.

Main works on the scheme started in May 2023 and are now progressing well. The road is expected to be completed and open to traffic in late 2025.

We’re keeping people updated on this page and with our newsletters, as well as being able to see progress so far with photos on our timeline page.

Road and footpath closures and diversions

From time to time, it is necessary for us to implement traffic management or road/footpath closures for the safety of workers and the travelling public. You can find more details on current closures and diversions below and we will update these regularly:

Footpath closures It is necessary to temporarily close sections of footpath across the scheme whilst works are undertaken. Alternative routes have been provided across the works and details may be found below, together with signage on site. Please do not deviate from these for your safety and that of our workforce. Note: some of the above are large files and they may only be viewable if downloaded first.
Forthcoming road closures

The B676 Saxby Road will be closed at its junction with Lag Lane from Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May 2024 to allow drainage works to take place ahead of construction for the new roundabout for the North & East Melton Mowbray Distributor Road.

Access for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained. All other traffic will need to use the diversion route as per the plan attached below.

Further details are included in the letter attached below. Note that we will also close some unsuitable local routes ensuring that they are not used by diverted traffic, and impose temporary weight restrictions, further details are below.

Traffic Signals and Temporary Works

During September 2023 there will be temporary two-way traffic lights on the B676 Saxby Road and A606 Burton Road. These will be in place from time to time as needed and removed as soon as possible.

There may be occasional, short periods of disruption at other locations associated with construction vehicles moving through the site and crossing public roads.

Archaeology of the site

The construction of the road has also given us the opportunity to research the archaeology in the area and you can see more details below.
