County Council elections are usually held on the first Thursday in May every 4 years.
The next County Council election will take place on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Key dates for the 2025 County Council election
- 24 March - Notice of election (beginning the nomination period)
- 24 March - Poll cards dispatched
- 2 April, 4pm - Deadline for receipt of nominations
- After 2 April, 5pm - Publication of the statement of persons nominated
- Around 11 April - Postal votes dispatched
- 11 April, midnight - Deadline to register to vote
- 14 April, 5pm - Deadline to apply for a postal vote
- 23 April, 5pm - Deadline to apply for a voter authority certificate
- 23 April, 5pm - Deadline to apply for a proxy vote
- 1 May, 7am-10pm - Polling day
