County Council elections are usually held on the first Thursday in May every 4 years.

The next County Council election will take place on Thursday 1 May 2025.

Results will be declared from 11.30am on Friday 2 May 2025 and can be found on our elections 2025 page.

Key dates for the 2025 County Council election

  • 24 March - Notice of election (beginning the nomination period)
  • 24 March - Poll cards dispatched
  • 2 April, 4pm - Deadline for receipt of nominations
  • After 2 April, 5pm - Publication of the statement of persons nominated
  • Around 11 April - Postal votes dispatched
  • 11 April, midnight - Deadline to register to vote
  • 14 April, 5pm - Deadline to apply for a postal vote
  • 23 April, 5pm - Deadline to apply for a voter authority certificate
  • 23 April, 5pm - Deadline to apply for a proxy vote
  • 1 May, 7am-10pm - Polling day
