With autumn now underway, we’re looking back at how our team helped people across Leicestershire get out and about this summer. This includes improving footpaths to boosting travel options.
Fab free fares - fun facts!
Over the year Leicestershire Buses has successfully re-launched and redesigned 22 bus services and 11 FoxConnect zones. A total of 993 people attended bus roadshows to find out about the changes.
On August weekends, free travel was offered on the new council supported services across the county. Passengers hopped on board for free, swapping the car for the bus, with some services recording a whopping 30 to 70% increase in passenger numbers!
Leicestershire’s new on-demand bus service, FoxConnect, achieved an average increase of 100 journeys on Saturdays in August.
Some top choices amongst bus users were the LC15, which serves Leicester City Centre and offers a stop close to the beautiful Bradgate Park, and the LC11 which is a shopper service that connects to Corby.

The footpaths facelift

The Public Rights of Way (PROW) team helps to maintain the footpaths across Leicestershire. This summer the team have repaired and resurfaced footpaths in preparation for the winter months.
Footpaths can be affected by standing water, surface runoff and erosion, leaving areas slippery and muddy. These scenarios aren’t easily avoided, thanks to our lovely British weather.

The repair works pictured above restores the full access and allows residents to continue their walk with ease. It also keeps in mind the safety of the other locals… The COWS!
The PROW team step-in to maintain the safety and accessibility of our beautiful countryside walks.
Dino T-recks
Over the summer 35 schools took part in our design-a-dinosaur competition, tapping into their creative side to draw a design for our dinosaur hunt.
The winning Dino designs and fun clues were scattered across 14 Leicestershire parks to create the Dino T-recks mystery hunt! Nearly 2,000 families took part, and our team got to meet 249 eager dinosaur hunters in-person.

The campaign inspired families to explore Leicestershire’s country parks in fun and active ways as well as encouraging people to walk, cycle, or hop on the bus to reach the trails.
