School place planning

The Council has a duty to supply high quality school places, in buildings that are fit for purpose and located in the right areas.

To meet the demand for school places, new schools may need to be built or changes made to existing schools. 

Proposals for new schools

Where the need for a new school is identified, we seek proposals to run the school, through a consultation process.

All recent proposals and the closing dates are listed below:

Proposal to establish a new primary school to serve Broadnook, Charnwood

(Closing date: 12pm on Friday 31 July 2026)

Proposal to establish a new primary school to serve Garendon Park, Loughborough

(Closing date: 12pm on Friday 31 July 2026)

Proposals to make organisational changes to existing schools

We consult with the public on proposals to make organisational changes to existing schools, e.g. to increase the size of the school or to change the age range. The consultation normally lasts for up to six weeks.

Proposal to provide Enhanced Resource Bases (ERB) at Woodcote Primary Schools

No objections were received to the statutory notice to provide an Enhanced Resource Bases (ERB) at Woodcote primary schools. The proposals were determined by Tim Browne, Interim Director (Education, Inclusion and Additional Needs) and will now go ahead.
