Local area SEND Inspection

Leicestershire’s education, health and social care services are jointly inspected by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to see how well they meet their responsibilities towards children and young people with SEN and disabilities.

Leicestershire SEND inspection reports

Update on the SEND revisit to Leicestershire that took place from Monday 14 November to 16 November 2022:

The Leicestershire local area was subject to a SEND re-inspection from 14 to 16 November 2022. The inspection team consisted of the Lead Ofsted Inspector and an inspector from the Care Quality Commission. The purpose of the visit was to consider the progress made by the local area on the two areas included within Leicestershire’s Written Statement of Action:

  • Lack of a joint commissioning strategy
  • Quality of EHC plans

The report highlighted the significant progress we have made and recognised improvements that have been made since the initial inspection in 2020.

However, we accept that findings that identified that whilst the education, health and care plans (EHCP) are better and include the views of parents and carers, significant improvements still need to be made, including the implementation and the quality assurance of EHCPs.

This is something that we are working on – inspectors acknowledged we have made a focused plan to bring about the necessary improvements to EHCPs. We aim to make the improvements as quickly as possible.

We would like to thank all of the parent/carers that contributed to the survey and attended the meeting with the inspection team.

An Accelerated Progress Plan (APP) has been developed by the local area and has been signed off by the Department for Education:
