We want to hear your views on our plans to upgrade a number of locations on the A511 between Ashby and Markfield, including proposed junction layouts and designs.
Our plans for the A511 growth corridor will see improvements made to nine locations between the A42 Junction 13 at Ashby to the Field Head roundabout near junction 22 of the M1, including upgrading a section of Stephenson Way from a single to a dual carriageway. lt also include plans to connect the A511 to Bardon Link Road and create a new north-south link across Coalville.
The scheme is the only one in the East Midlands to be submitted to the Department for Transport for a share of a £3.5 billion fund available for local road improvements from 2020-2025.
It is estimated to cost £49m and Midlands Connect is bidding, on Leicestershire’s behalf, for around £42m with the remainder of £7m coming from developer contributions.
If the bid is successful, the improvements will boost housing and employment in an area of Leicestershire which is rapidly growing. It will also help the A42 and M1 – which are ‘gateways’ to East Midlands Airport become more resilient.
Our proposals will:
unlock further homes in the area
improve journey times and reliability for residents and users of the corridor
support a logistics and freight network with more reliable journey times
improve safety for all road users.
