Please note: Gambling is age-restricted in the UK, with most activities limited to those aged 18+. We are therefore focusing this survey on adults and plan to gather the views of young people separately.
Online forms for highways issues will be unavailable on Sunday 6 September 4am to 1pm due to some scheduled IT maintenance.
Residents and people who work in Leicestershire are being urged to share their views on gambling and its impacts.
We have launched a survey to gather your views of gambling and the harms it can cause.
This survey runs from Tuesday 1 September to Monday 12 October 2026.
Anyone exposed to gambling products is at risk of experiencing the associated harms. Gambling can impact finances, relationships, mental health, wellbeing and work.
Gambling can be addictive and secretive, and many people who are experiencing gambling related harm may be unwilling to ask for support due to the shame or fear of being judged. The impacts of gambling also reach much wider than individuals and can affect family members and friends.
Due to the negative impacts on health, finances and social circumstances, gambling and the associated harms are considered a public health issue.
Local authorities have a key role in improving health, and Leicestershire County Council, partners and residents are best placed to work together to prevent and reduce gambling harms.
From April 2025 the Government has also put in place a statutory gambling levy charged to all licensed gambling operators. Some of this money is being given to councils to reduce gambling related harms.
Key to driving our local response is understanding the impact of gambling on those who live and work in Leicestershire.
This survey will help us to understand people’s experiences, and exposure to gambling as well as their awareness of gambling related harm.
We're interested in hearing the views of anyone who lives or works in Leicestershire and is aged 18 and over, whether you currently participate in gambling or not.
We will use the information from the survey to further understand the experiences and impact of gambling in Leicestershire. This will help shape our future work in this area.
We encourage you to complete the survey online, but paper copies and alternative formats can be requested by email. Please email: PHPool@leics.gov.uk if you would like paper copies, or if you have any queries about this work.
If you're worried that you or someone you know is gambling too often or for too long, we'd encourage you to talk to someone you trust and get support with gambling to make changes.
