The closing date to apply for autumn 2027 secondary school places is this Saturday (October 31).
Visit the school admissions page for information about county schools, hints and tips on applying and how to submit applications.
Councillor Charles Pugsley, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for children and families, said:
It’s really important to apply for Year 7 secondary places for next autumn before the application closing date.
If you don’t, your application will be processed after those made on time. There’s no automatic entry for any of our schools.
There’s lots of information on our website. You can download our digital checklist and, when you’re ready, you can apply via our parent portal.
Applicants can select up to five school preferences and are strongly recommended to include their catchment area school.
There are two new primary schools in Broadnook, near Rothley, and Garendon, Loughborough, set to open next autumn which are now available to put down as preferences when making primary school applications for the next academic year.
Applications for children starting primary school for the first time in autumn 2027, and for infant to junior transfers, need to be made by January 15.
Allocated school places will be announced on national offer days – 2 March 2027 (secondary) and 16 April 2027 (primary).
More advice is available on the admissions page, as well as a downloadable digital checklist.
