Residents in North West Leicestershire attended a free Winter health advice event which was hosted by the Local Area Coordinator at Leicestershire County Council, in conjunction with Coalville Library.
The collaborative event took place on 4 November and brought together a range of organisations to offer expert advice and practical support to help people stay healthy during the colder months.
Visitors had the opportunity to speak directly with local services offering guidance on everything from keeping homes energy-efficient to accessing mental health and dementia support alongside community groups that residents can connect with to reduce isolation. Attendees also received information on NHS care options, support for carers, work and wellbeing coaching and help with heating bills and home repairs and housing support. There were also practical tips shared on how to prepare cars and properties for winter weather.
One of the key messages was the importance of getting the flu jab this winter. Health professionals were on hand to explain who is eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination, how to access it and why it’s especially important for older people, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions.
Councillor Michael Squires, cabinet member for health, said: “There was so much useful advice available, and it was great to see people getting information from local services. Whether it was talking about health advice or finding out how to get your flu jab, there was something for everyone. Events like this are a great way to bring people together.
“Our Local Area Coordinators maintain a presence throughout the year, sharing local information, promoting activities, and helping residents stay connected; this ongoing work is all about strengthening community ties, supporting those who need it most to improve their lives.”
At the event, we focused on practical ways to connect locally, reduce isolation, stay safe, and stay warm during the winter months. These practical, vital, steps make a real difference to people.
