Leicestershire County Council has won two awards to mark its effort in supporting employees in the workplace.

The Menopause Friendly Employer awards – run by Menopause Friendly UK – hosted their annual ceremony for private and public sector organisations who are committed to supporting staff experiencing menopause.

The county council came away with the coveted Menopause Friendly Employer of the Year Award, and Best Peer to Peer Support Award for its accommodating work culture and being a supportive workplace – including the creation of a dedicated staff network.

Research shows one in ten women leave the workplace due to the menopause.

The county council pipped several large organisations to win the two honours at the awards, hosted on Wednesday 11 September, including British Airways, ASDA, Ovo and BAE Systems.

Councillor Pam Posnett, cabinet member for staff relations, said: “Winning these Menopause Friendly employer awards is a testament to the inclusive culture which has been developed over many years at the council.

“We know that creating a supportive environment for our diverse team makes us stronger and better able to serve our community – becoming menopause friendly is another important way to care for our employees and help them to do the jobs they love.”
