battle re-enactment

The popular Bosworth Medieval Festival is set to return this weekend for an anniversary special on 22 August and 23 August.

The two-day festival, which attracts thousands of visitors to Leicestershire County Council’s Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, featuring reenactors and traders from across the country, will take place this weekend.

This year’s event will be even more special with the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth being commemorated during the festival.

The traditional rose laying ceremony to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth will take place within the arena on Saturday 22 August. To attend the rose laying, a festival ticket must be purchased.

The family-friendly festival features battle re-enactments by the Wars of the Roses Federation – including a 20-minute re-creation of the Battle of Bosworth on both afternoons with hundreds of re-enactors.

There will also be large living history encampments to explore, archery, medieval falconry demonstrations, musicians, Knight School, a storyteller, guided tours, author talks, hands-on games and competitions for children, as well as entry to the award-winning exhibition.

We’re honoured to be hosting the Bosworth Medieval Festival this month, especially on the Battle of Bosworth anniversary. It is a fantastic event that’s memorable, educational and entertaining for all the family.

Our county has rich heritage and we’re proud that this festival attracts people from all over the UK and further afield. The heritage team work extremely hard in the build-up to the event to ensure the public experience an impressive weekend.

The battle itself was a pivotal moment in English history, and this event offers the chance for people of all ages to learn about Leicestershire’s rich heritage and have a great day out.

I’d encourage residents to take advantage of the great value for money tickets and spend the weekend taking in the medieval sights and experiences.

Tickets are available to buy online at the Bosworth Battlefield website or by calling 01455 290429.  They can also be bought on the gate on the day of the event, but pre-booking to secure tickets is advised. The programme of events may vary depending on the weather, but teams are preparing for a great weekend come rain or shine.

Tickets are valid for the whole weekend, which means that visitors can come on either or both days for no extra cost.
