Leicestershire County Council attractions have been honoured at the Leicestershire and Rutland Tourism and Hospitality Awards, with two employees also scooping awards for their work.
Melton Carnegie Museum was highly commended in the “Best Team” category at the awards. The museum has recently been named as a ‘hidden gem’ by VisitEngland, and also received a 94% score when inspected on its visitor quality.
Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre was commended in the ‘small visitor attraction’ category.
The popular site with visitors keen on the history of Richard III from all over the world was recently described as “a fascinating and emotionally moving portrayal of one of the key moments in English history” during its own recent visitor quality inspection.
Duncan Reed from 1620s House at Donington-le-Heath picked up the ‘Rising Star’ award in recognition of the great impression he has made to the team and visitors at the site since he started in his role this year.
Richard Knox, Access and Interpretation Manager across county council’s museums and heritage service received Special Recognition for Services to Tourism. Inspiring visitors for over 35 years, His expertise and dedication have helped uncover untold stories, most famously as part of the dig team who discovered the actual location of the Battle of Bosworth in 2009.

Regarded as the most prestigious awards for the sector locally, the Leicestershire and Rutland Tourism and Hospitality awards attracts nominations from every part of the county, with local, Leicestershire and Rutland based businesses competing to take the top awards.
