Leicestershire residents are being reminded to make sure they can vote ahead of the county council elections with just one week until the registration deadline closes.

From Bottesford to Burbage, and Market Bosworth to Melton Mowbray, polls will open across the county on Thursday 1 May to elect 55 councillors to represent them. More than half-a-million people are expected to be eligible to vote.

The deadline to register to vote closes on Friday 11 April at 11:59pm and everyone who is already registered to vote should have now received their poll card.

Anyone who has recently changed address or hasn’t received their poll card is being encouraged to make sure they can vote by registering on the government website.

If anyone is unsure whether they are registered to vote, they can contact their local district or borough council.

The elected county councillors will be involved in making decisions about how council services are delivered, as well as helping to shape the look of local councils for generations to come.

“We want everyone to have the chance and have a say at this election, so if you’ve not had your poll card make sure you register on the website so you can vote.”

More information about the election, including the people standing in each electoral division, can be found at on the elections webpage.
