£17m fund launches to help Leicestershire households in crisis

Support for residents in need

hands holding one another

A major new fund helping people experiencing a sudden financial crisis to secure essential items and build a more stable future is now live.

Leicestershire County Council is using £17m of Government cash to run the scheme over the next three years.

The Crisis and Resilience Fund provides emergency payments for food, fuel or essential costs and longer-term practical help – such as debt management advice and help with reducing essential living costs - to prevent people reaching another crisis point.

“Supporting those most in need is a priority. Finances are tight for a lot of households and when a crisis occurs it squeezes people’s wallets even further.

“Importantly, this new scheme addresses this immediate financial shock and provides tailored support to help people become more financially secure over time.

“The Government cash enables us to support vulnerable people and improve health and wellbeing, while ensuring public resources are used effectively and responsibly.”

Council Leader, Dan Harrison

The council’s cabinet will hear an update on the new scheme next Tuesday (28 April) – tune in on our website.
