Refurbished minibus helps fostering recruitment go the extra mile

Colourful fostering bus spreads important message

A school minibus has had a colourful makeover and given a ‘wheely’ new important job, spreading the message about fostering.

It will now travel across the county sharing its fostering message and attending ‘pop-up’ events in a bid to recruit much-needed new carers.

Previously used as a school transport vehicle, the minibus has been given a second lease-of-life by Leicestershire County Council’s fostering recruitment team.

It first hit the road this summer and will next be seen at Lubenham Scarecrow Festival on Saturday 13 September.

Councillor Charles Pugsley, lead member for children and families at Leicestershire County Council, said: “There are over 750 children and young people across our county that are in care.

“It’s important for us to spread the message about the vital role our foster carers play in children’s lives, and the urgent need we have for more people to step into the role.

“We want to reach into local communities to share this message, so this minibus is the perfect way to bring information to people. If you see one in your local town or village, make sure to have a chat with our friendly team if you think fostering could fit into your life.”

Renovations not only include a colourful eye-catching wrap, but also a revamp to the interior to create a welcoming space for face-to-face discussions.

A new awning also allows for pop-up events to take place no matter the weather and its tail lift means it has full disabled access.

Those wanting to find out more about fostering with Leicestershire County Council can visit the fostering in Leicestershire website. They can also email the fostering team at fostering@leics.gov.uk, or call them on 0116 305 0505.

Alternatively, anyone managing community events across Leicestershire who is happy to welcome the service and their new minibus can contact the team.
