Smokers across Leicestershire are being encouraged to take part in this year's national Stoptober campaign and take the first step towards a healthier, smoke-free future.
People who stop smoking for 28 days are five times more likely to quit for good, making Stoptober the perfect opportunity to break the habit with support from QuitReady, Leicestershire County Council's free stop smoking service.
Over 14,000 people have successfully quit smoking with the support of QuitReady since 2017.
With smoking remaining the leading cause of preventable illness and death, stopping smoking is one of the best things people can do to improve their health and wellbeing.
Quitting doesn't just benefit the person who smokes. It can also help protect family and friends from the effects of second-hand smoke, improve overall wellbeing and free up more money for everyday essentials and the things that matter most.
People are being reminded that it is never too late to quit, even if they have tried before. Many smokers make several attempts before they stop for good, and every quit attempt brings them one step closer to success.
If you've been thinking about quitting smoking, Stoptober is the perfect chance to give it a go.
