The LLSTP was approved by Cabinet in November 2020. It sets out the key long-term transport priorities for the future development and prosperity of Leicester and Leicestershire.
As part of its Strategic planning (GOV.UK) the Government now requires local authorities, such as Leicestershire County Council, to prepare Spatial Development Strategies (SDS) by 2028. SDS’s will set out general areas for proposed growth, such as for new homes and places of employment, and identify the strategic infrastructure needed to enable that growth.
Proposals for developing an SDA were agreed by the Cabinet at its meeting on 16 December 2025.
The LLSTP will be reviewed as part of the work to develop the SDS, including consideration if it's appropriate to have a separate LLSTP document, once an SDS is in place.
