A neighbourhood plan helps to shape and direct future development; it cannot influence development that is already permitted or allocated and cannot be used to block future growth.
Neighbourhood plans
A neighbourhood plan sets out planning policies for the development and use of land in a neighbourhood and can include proposals for improving the area or providing new facilities.
It can cover a range of planning issues such as housing, employment, heritage and transport or focus on a single topic of importance for the community.
A neighbourhood plan must comply with:
- national planning policy
- EU and UK legislation
- strategic development needs set out in the Local Plan
- human rights requirements
If adopted it will become part of the local development plan and be used by the local planning authority when making decisions on planning applications.
