Have your say on how the council wants to work together with residents, councils, businesses, and others to reduce carbon emissions.
This consultation runs from 4 May - 26 July 2022.
The Net Zero Strategy and Action Plan sets out the approach to delivering the Council’s ambitions to achieve net zero carbon emissions in Leicestershire by 2045 or before.
The Strategy takes a long-term view – looking ahead to 2045, setting out the end goal of net zero carbon by 2045 with interim targets and outlines how we intend to do this.
The Action Plan sets out what needs to happen across the county to both support the journey to net zero and to directly reduce carbon emissions. The Action Plan includes what the council will do and where it aims to inspire and involve others such as businesses, organisations and residents.
The draft strategy and action plan have a range of key goals, including:
reducing carbon emissions generated by transport
reducing energy use in buildings – plus improving energy efficiency and adding new renewable energy generation
supporting businesses to go green and grow the low carbon economy
supporting communities to tackle climate change
increasing the removal and storage of carbon in natural systems like soil and forests
Each of these is explained fully in the strategy and action plan.
