Narborough and Whetstone residents will be able to vote for a county councillor in a by-election this April.

The by-election on Thursday 16 April has been prompted by the resignation of the current County Councillor Andrew Thorp.

Residents who are not already registered to vote need to apply by midnight on Friday 27 March, 2026 on the Government's website.

“Every day residents of the county benefit from more than 400 services offered by the council.

“Decisions about these local services and issues are made by councillors, and they affect everyone, from roads and transport and adult social care to waste disposal and school places.

“That’s why we’re urging people eligible to vote in this by-election to use their vote and not lose out.

“Please don’t assume you’re registered to vote. People miss out on the chance to vote by thinking they’re registered.”

Blaby District Council will run the election on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.

Information about deadlines and candidate nominations, registering for a postal or proxy vote, or applying for a free Voter Authority Certificate, can be found on the Government's dedicated webpage.

More information, including the candidates standing in the election, will be available on the council's website.
