Oadby Recycling and Household Waste site will be closed for around three months from Tuesday 29 July to allow for essential works to be carried out.

The 20-year-old concrete floor of the lower level of the site in Wigston Road needs to be replaced to ensure the site is sustainable and remains safe for staff and users.

All waste permits valid at the Oadby site will be accepted at any other open waste site in the county for the first two weeks after the closure. Permits can be applied for to access other sites once the two-week period ends.

Councillor Charles Whitford, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for highways, transport and waste, said: “We appreciate that this will cause some inconvenience to people who use the Recycling and Household Waste site at Oadby and apologise for the disruption, but closing the site is the only way to complete these essential works.

“Alternative waste sites and their opening times are available on our website, and I would encourage everyone planning to travel to one of our sites to check before they set out.”

The site is expected to reopen in October.
