Register a birth

You can only register the birth of a child by appointment.

Registering a birth

Please call Leicestershire Registration Services using the number below to make an appointment if your baby was born in the district of Leicestershire.

If your baby was born in the City of Leicester, please register a birth with Leicester City Council

If you are not a Leicestershire resident and your baby was born outside of Leicestershire, you need to contact the district where the baby was born for an appointment.

Informing us of a birth

If you are a Leicestershire resident and legally responsible for registering a birth which has happened in a different district, you can declare the birth to us.

This is not the same as registering a birth. This is known as a declaration.

Please call us using the number below to arrange an appointment at one of our Leicestershire Registration Offices. During your appointment, the information of the birth will be documented and forwarded to the relevant district for them to finalise and complete the registration. You will not receive your child’s birth certificate at this appointment. Certificates can be purchased from the district completing the registration.

These appointments are limited, so it may be quicker to make an appointment in the district where the baby was born.
