When are the proposed improvements to the A511 scheduled to commence?
Works on site are scheduled to commence in Spring 2026 with completion expected early 2028.
When will the contractor be appointed?
It is expected that the contractor will be appointed Spring / Summer 2025.
How long will it take to complete the works?
Construction works will take place over a 2-year period.
Will you be working across the whole scheme at the same time?
The scheme will be completed in phases in order to minimise the construction impact.
What works will be carried out when?
The scheduling of the construction programme is planned for later this year and will be developed in collaboration with the contractor and our traffic management department to develop a construction strategy that minimises disruption to existing road users.
How will the scheme be funded?
A significant proportion of the scheme is to be funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) through the national Major Road Network Fund.
What are the key benefits of the scheme?
It will provide alternative access to the housing development to the south-east of Coalville and improve safety for pedestrians through the provision of better crossing facilities at key junctions.
What economic benefits will the scheme bring?
It will:
- improve journey times and reduce congestion along the A511 major road network
- deliver improved connectivity to key destinations
- support public transport operations, freight movements and encourage the use of sustainable transport
- improve access to existing and new jobs as well as supporting future housing growth in and around Coalville.
