Leicestershire County Council conducts an EIA whenever it is considering a major change in policy of practice. An EIA helps us identify if there may be any adverse consequences for particular sectors of the community.
We decide whether to go ahead with a proposal or to modify it, so that any negative impact is avoided or mitigated.
This process makes sure that the council meets its obligations under the Equality Act to have due regard of the impact of its actions on the need to:
- eliminate unlawful discrimination
- advance equality of opportunity
- foster good relations across the county
The results of an EIA highlight areas for improvement, which are then addressed through service plans.
