Call for dementia experiences to shape support service

The stories and experiences of people living in the county who have dementia or care for someone with dementia are needed.

Leicestershire County Council’s current dementia support service is delivered by Age UK and provides help and advice, including one-to-one support in person, online and via telephone.

A new service is set to begin October 2026 and an event is being held inviting people to share their experiences and insight to what dementia support services are required for the County to meet their needs.

The event takes place at County Hall on Wednesday 18 February from 11am-3pm.

“We know that people living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia are one of the best ways for us to learn about what we need to offer.

“I’m hopeful as many people can come to the event to share their stories, experiences so that we can provide a service that gives people the support they need at what can be a very difficult time.”

People at the workshop will be asked to help with what a good dementia support service should look like, what the service should offer to help to support people living with dementia and carers, and what support should look like for people contacting if they are concerned about their memory.

Age UK will also be at the event to share information about the current service and will be on hand to answer any questions about the pre and post diagnosis support they offer.

To book a place, please email the team or call 0116 3058212 by Friday 13 February, highlighting any accessibility or dietary requirements.

For more information about living with or caring for someone with dementia, or anyone worried about their memory visit the living with dementia webpage. Age UK’s support service can also be contacted directly at 0116 223 7363.
