Closing date for secondary applications approaching

Time to get applications in for autumn 2026

Three school pupils chatting

The closing date is fast approaching to apply for autumn 2026 secondary school places.

Parents and carers planning to apply for Leicestershire schools are reminded that they need to apply to the county council by Friday, October 31.

Visit our applying for a secondary school place page for information about county schools, hints and tips about applying and advice on how best to submit applications.

“We want parents and carers to know that the closing date is approaching and that it’s important to apply before that passes.

“If you don’t, your application will be processed after those made on time. There’s no automatic entry for any of our schools.

“We’d suggest taking a look online, downloading our digital checklist and, when you’re ready, you can apply via our parent portal.”

Applicants can select up to five school preferences; it’s strongly recommended to include your catchment area school

Applications for children starting primary school for the first time in autumn 2025, and for infant to junior transfers, need to be made by January 15.

Allocated school places will be announced on national offer days – 2 March 2026 (secondary) and 16 April 2026 (primary).
