School places strategy and market position and sufficiency statements
School Places Strategy 2026 to 2031
Our School Places Strategy outlines how we manage school places across Leicestershire to ensure there are enough spaces in the right locations, now and in the future. Based on population growth, housing development, and current capacity, this strategy identifies where additional places may be required.
Education, inclusion and additional needs market placement position and sufficiency statement 2026 to 2029
The market position and sufficiency statement sets out our plans to ensure that we can deliver high-quality educational support for children and young people in Leicestershire with special educational needs and disabilities.
The statement describes current and future demand for educational placements and support and considers ways to meet local strategic priorities and ensure sufficient support and services are available within available public resources. This process is often referred to as sufficiency planning and adopting this approach will help the council to better to understand and plan local sufficiency for SEND provision in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings.
The sufficiency planning is especially important as we prepare for the Government School’s white paper and Local Government Reorganisation.
Planning area data sheets
Our planning area data sheets are used to help us make decisions, plan proposals, and run consultations. Please read alongside the strategy, above.
The data sheets provide local information about school places across the county. They show:
- how many school place are currently needed
- the current capacity of local schools
- future demand for places in specific areas of the county.
