Travel arrangements
Unlike travelling to school, there is no statutory duty for the council to provide travel assistance to and from short breaks. Parents and carers are responsible for travel arrangements and needs to be considered when selecting an activity, as other options closer to home may be available. Families should consider if they are eligible for the Motability element of the disability living allowance and how this could support travel to the short breaks.
Whilst there is no general statutory duty to provide transport to short break activities, transport-related barriers will be considered as part of an assessment of individual needs. Where appropriate, consideration may be given to whether reasonable adjustments or alternative arrangements are required to enable a child or young person to access their agreed short break provision.
