5 things you need to know to access a safe space when you’re out in the public

Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious or unsure while you are out? Hear from Anita our Community Safety Team Officer, as she shares how to find support when you need it most.

When you are out and about knowing where to go for help can make a big difference.

That’s where Keep Safe Places come in. These are safe, friendly places in the community where you can take a break, get help or just feel supported.

Here are 5 ways you access Keep Safe Places in Leicestershire.

  1. Look for the Keep Safe Logo

Keep Safe Places have a clear logo displayed in shop or library windows. It’s your sign that staff inside are ready to offer support.

Spot the logo before you need it, so you know where to go just in case.

  1. Know where to find them

There are Keep Safe Places across Leicestershire – in libraries, community centres, shops and public buildings.

  1. It’s okay to ask for help

If you’re upset, scared, lost or just need a moment- staff are on hand to listen and help however they can.

  1. They’re for everyone

Whether you are a young adult, with friends, students new to the town, a parent with children or someone living with anxiety or disability- these spaces are for all..

Share this with family and friends so they know where to go too.

  1. Use them when you feel unsafe

You might feel uneasy or overwhelmed by a busy crowd or suddenly unsure of your surroundings.

Keep Safe Places are open during normal business hours and many are open into the evening – great to know if you are out late.

Check where your local keep safe place is before you head out to know where you can go whilst out and about and check times they are open until.

If you are a local retailer who could offer a safe space for someone in the community then contact us at communitysafety@leics.gov.uk on how to join the #KeepSafePlace scheme.
