My data apprenticeship – unleashing a forgotten thirst for learning

Jay Dobson for Leicestershire Chatters

I have worked as a Business Analyst at Leicestershire County Council for the past two and a half years and, although I thoroughly enjoy my role, I welcomed the opportunity to undertake a Multiverse data apprenticeship alongside my daytoday responsibilities when my manager suggested it.

Through the programme, I developed a broad range of new skills, from Power BI and Python to dashboard design and development, which I was able to apply immediately within my role, even before completing the apprenticeship. As a result, I have seen a noticeable improvement in my productivity, effectiveness and overall efficiency. It also unleashed a longforgotten thirst for learning, which has been incredibly rewarding.

I was fortunate to have outstanding support from both my manager and my trainers throughout the apprenticeship. Together, we established a study schedule that balanced my learning commitments with the needs of the team, allowing me dedicated time to focus and develop.

Taking on an apprenticeship while working is undoubtedly a significant personal challenge but completing it is something I feel genuinely proud of. With the right support, guidance and time management, it offers a fantastic opportunity to upskill, and I would encourage anyone to speak with their manager about what options might be available.

As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2026 and this year’s theme ‘skills for life’, now is the perfect time to consider a career with endless opportunities, including in-work apprenticeships. Browse our latest vacancies.
