Current progress of the LNRS

Following the appointment of Leicestershire County Council as the responsible authority for the development of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland, we are currently in the delivery stage.

We have:

  • delivered 'an introduction to the LNRS' information event on 30 June 2023  - please see the slides presented at this event below:
  • appointed the LNRS Project Manager 
  • developed a project plan and budget profile 
  • developed a communication and engagement plan
  • developed draft description of the strategy area
  • developed a draft baseline local habitat map
  • developed initial species long list
  • completed assessment of existing plans and strategies to capture relevant priorities
  • established LNRS Steering Group, Communication and Engagement Working Group, Data Management Working Group, GIS Mapping Working Group and Species Technical Working Group
  • held a series of stakeholder briefings in March and April 2024. Please see slides presented at the briefings:
  • March - July 2024: Communication and Engagement go live
  • August - September 2024: Collating, analysing and reviewing feedback
  • September 2024: Draft LNRS developed

Key dates in 2024

  • October - December:
    Approval of draft LNRS by supporting authorities
    Sharing of draft LNRS with neighbouring responsible authorities

Key dates in 2025

  • January - February: Public consultation undertaken
  • March - July: Approval of final LNRS
  • July: Publication of LNRS

We will also be adding 'how to get involved' information, which will provide more details on how you can participate in webinars, workshops, surveys and more, to help inform and shape the LNRS.
