This consultation runs from Tuesday 18 March to Wednesday 30 April 2025.
We are consulting to expand the age-range of Oakfield Short Stay School from primary only to include pupils of (secondary school age) 11 - 16. This is to enable some pupils who are not able to access mainstream school to be enrolled and access suitable provision. Secondary age pupils will not attend the existing primary school sites or mix with primary age children.
Currently, secondary age children who have been permanently excluded from school are provided education through the Secondary Education Inclusion Partnerships at an alternative provision.
More information on the plans can be found in the Cabinet report 18 March 2025
We are seeking the views of:
- all parents and carers of children between the ages of 2 and 18
- schools including academies
- voluntary-controlled schools
- aided schools and community special schools and relevant stakeholders
Our statutory duty for making these proposals
Leicestershire County Council have a statutory duty to make sure that all pupils have access to education.
Children affected by the changes
This will enable the council to provide an education for children unable to access mainstream schools.
The reason we're consulting
There is no legal requirement to consult for changes to a Pupil Referral Unit. However, pupils, parents and stakeholders have a legitimate expectation that decisions affecting them would be subject to consultation. The same approach is being taken as would be required when making changes to a maintained school.
Have your say
To submit your views, please complete the consultation survey below by midnight, 30 April 2025 at the latest.
